SPERM FREEZING

Sperm freezing, also known as sperm cryopreservation, is a process in which semen samples are collected and frozen in liquid nitrogen at very low temperatures. This technique is commonly used to preserve a man's fertility in situations where his ability to produce sperm may be compromised or when he wishes to preserve his sperm for future use.

Find some of these situations below:

EMERGENCY SURGERY

Sperm freezing is used in cases where a man needs to undergo emergency surgery that may affect his reproductive ability. Freezing sperm before the surgery can help preserve the man's fertility, in case the surgery results in temporary or permanent infertility.

EMERGENCY CHEMOTHERAPY

Chemotherapy is a type of cancer treatment that can affect a man's ability to produce sperm. In cases where a man needs to undergo emergency chemotherapy, freezing his sperm before treatment can help preserve his fertility, as the chemotherapy may cause temporary or permanent infertility. Testicular cancer can occur at any age, including teenage years, so we also offer this service for teenage boys and young men.

PRE-VASECTOMY

Vasectomy is a surgical procedure that permanently sterilizes a man, making him unable to father children. However, before undergoing a vasectomy, a man may choose to freeze his sperm as a precautionary measure, in case he changes his mind about having children in the future.

GENDER REASSIGNMENT

Some individuals who undergo gender re-assignment may wish to preserve their fertility before undergoing hormone therapy or gender-affirming surgery, which can affect their reproductive ability. Freezing sperm before these procedures can help ensure that the individual can still have biological children in the future.

The sperm samples are then frozen in high security straws and stored in liquid nitrogen at very low temperatures, typically around -196°C (-321°F). The samples can be stored for many years, and when you are ready to use them, they can be thawed and used for or other assisted reproductive techniques such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Overall, sperm freezing provides you with the option to preserve fertility and have biological children in the future, even in situations where their reproductive ability may be compromised. Fertility cryopreservation has become a valuable tool for many individuals and couples seeking to build a family.
